A personal note from Kath

I'd just like to say to you all, that it is my great pleasure to continue to provide you with a timetable of classes. As you may have noticed I'm really rather passionate about my work!
I've missed you, you all give to me so much and I've really missed the studio and seeing all your lovely smiley faces. I love to see how you transform during a session & spring n bounce your way home! You all inspire me to keep coming up with new classes and different ways to move on a wobbly surface!

Do you know, I have  worked full time now for 16 years. Teaching Pilates, Movement & Hendrickson Massage treatments, in and around Headingley, through many terrible times of grief and loss in my life. I have never taken very much time off during these challenging times. I believe that my work, and that's all of you, have helped me to get through these dark periods, and not collapse under the intensity of emotions. All your personal stories, sometimes your deepest secrets, your challenges and triumphs, your grief and losses. I have had the great privilege to hear them and witness them. You inspire me every day to be a better version of myself, to be more compassionate, to be a better Teacher, Coach, Listener.

You might also have noticed, that I really like to help people, to make a difference in their lives. My close friends and family roll their eyes, at the amount of things I take on, in the name of being of service to others. It's how I'm made, and yes I totally overwork and take on too much but  I wouldn't want to be any different.

I'm really curious about the body and how it moves. Always have been. From designing rehab exercises for my Gran, after her stroke when I was 9, massaging my Dad's back and shoulders, and helping my Mum get rid of her tension headaches.
My curiosity lead me to want to be a Physiotherapist but at that time in Scotland there were only 30 places per year and I didn't get one. I didn't know then that I was Dyslexic. So what else to do but to run away and join the Circus!
I trained in Circus & Physical Theatre performance. I came to Pilates and Somatic based movement practices such as Alexander
technique and Feldenkrais, from injuries and chronic health conditions. I'm telling you all this so you can see, this is my life's purpose, and I still love learning and upskilling (which I'm doing online during lockdown) to bring the latest fascinating & science based information to you.

When I heard the news from the Chancellor, that we had to close the studio, I was truly devastated! I would not be beaten by a tiny virus I couldn't even see!! I'd carried on teaching through all of my past difficulties, this would not stop me, I would not, could not let you down!

So you see I need you as much as you need me! So a huge mahoosive THANK YOU for your continued loyalty and support during this challenging time. The income from the online classes is enough to keep ticking over for now.

In regards to when we might reopen the studio? My honest answer is "I don't know!" My priority is safety, yours and my family's, and I'm not yet convinced the Government advice to restart the economy is the right motivation for reopening in July.
I will be keeping a close eye on the latest updates and safety advice. If pressed I'd say most likely September, if we don't hit a second wave of the virus. Possibly July with a skeleton timetable of 121s, gyms and small reformer/equipment classes to start with (Obviously with strict hygiene rules in place). But for now we will keep zooming along, please do send me feedback and requests for different types of classes or times.
Thank you again for continuing to sign up and log in to the classes. Together we will get through this!
