Sound Baths FAQ

Is water involved?
No, the term ‘bath’ is used as the clients are ‘bathed’ in the sound and vibrations of the instruments.

What kinds of instruments do you use?
A Sound Tonic sound bath uses Himalayan singing bowls; crystal singing bowls; voice (the practitioner does a little bit of simple toning during the sound bath.  Don’t worry, you won’t be asked to join in); and some percussive instruments towards the end of the session.

Will I be expected to do anything during the sound bath?
No, all you need to do is lie down, relax and allow yourself to be immersed in the sounds.

Do I need to bring anything?
A yoga mat and bolster is supplied, but you may want to bring a blanket, an extra cushion, an extra mat and/or and eye mask, anything that could help you feel more comfortable during the sound bath.

How will I feel during the sound bath?
Most people enter a deeply meditative state during a sound bath.  It allows the participant to quieten the mind and take a break from internal chatter.  Some people feel the vibrations of the soundwaves very strongly, like a sonic massage, which can help with the sense of wellbeing.

How will I feel after the sound bath?
People report feeling extremely relaxed and refreshed after a sound bath; light and energised.  A common side effect after a sound bath is a fantastic night’s sleep.

What are the benefits?
Sound baths are a fantastic and easy way to switch off from the world, take some time out and relax.  Consider it a mini-break. The sounds are very effective in slowing down brain activity, the same as that achieved with meditation, but without having to do the work to get there.    In this state, the sensory messages between the body and the mind are reduced and the body goes into ‘repair mode’: renewing cells and rebalancing the body’s natural chemicals.
Some people choose to focus their attention on particular energy centres (chakras) during a sound bath, which can be very useful in supporting the body in self-healing, but don’t worry if that’s not your thing.

What should I wear?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in while lying down.  You will be asked to remove your shoes.
